By now, you’ve probably heard of this new phenomenon – 3D printing. You may even have already purchased – or even designed – an item created by a 3D printer. Thanks to sites like Shapeways, Sculpteo, and Thingiverse, designing and producing an object using 3D printing technologies is truly as easy as 1-2-3. The question is: how will this explosion of design potential and manufacturing processes impact our creativity and how we create?

It’s no big secret that the fashion industry is one of the economy’s biggest sellers, bringing in over $300 billion in annual revenue. But how many of us stop mid-stride at the boutique or halfway through Vogue magazine to consider the cost? The truth is, it’s the world’s natural ecosystems and the stability of just societies that pay for this year’s pumps, not the corporate bank accounts. That’s why the fashion industry ranks third among the most environmentally damaging industries in the world. So what hope can we have for its long-term viability? Eco Fashion Week seeks to solve this riddle.

“Inspire. Achieve. Excel” – a slogan that certainly parallels our own design objectives!  Our latest adventures in branding and web design have been with the Kelowna Skating Club, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing skating programs of all varieties to skaters of all ages and skill levels – and our design inspiration lies at the heart of this mission.

That’s right, we’ve kicked off 2013 with a stunning new website – but the key to our success is still tried and true. It’s not by chance or slight of hand, but a method that we’ve carefully honed for success. And it just so happens that the launch of our new website offers the perfect opportunity to tell you all about it!  It’s a story worth telling, because it illustrates exactly the steps we take with each of our clients for every project. We walk them through the same creative process we use ourselves – because they deserve nothing less.

 We’ve had a keen eye on the iPhone 5 since its release, eager to see if it lives up to the Apple-culture hype.  Time and trial will tell – but in the meantime, the inevitable wave of new iPhone cases has our creative design radar buzzing. As avid designers with a zealous taste for originality, we truly appreciate the clever, quirky, and classy ideas clearly conceived outside the box. Here, we share a few of the best we’ve come across so far.

It’s back – the Vancouver International Film Festival is about to light up the city’s best theatres and event venues for a spectacular 31st season!  380 films from over 75 countries. 600 showings presented on 10 magnificent screens.  107 Canadian films selected from 800 Canadian submissions. An astounding two weeks – September 27-October 12 – entirely devoted to “the benefit of people who love films and people who create them”. With such an immense showcase of kreativity descending upon our doorstep, it’s no wonder this is our favourite time of year!

Since the release of Ron Fricke and Mark Madigson’s film SAMSARA, you no longer need 88 days to see the world – 99 minutes will more than suffice. In that period, you’ll reach more than 25 countries and experience hundreds of global phenomena in unbelievably vivid detail. You may also discover an unexpected sense of connection to the earth’s pulses and organic flow, channeled through the magnificent flow of images and music. Weaving together the ancient and the modern, the simple and the spectacular, and an entire spectrum of poignancy, SAMSARA truly exemplifies its Sanskrit expression of “the ever-turning wheel of life”.

Can you imagine a whole year without your car, your iPhone, your favourite brand of beer, or even underwear? Could you survive that long without using Google, hitting the bars, grabbing a latte-to-go, or watching the latest HBO series? Would you be able to create everything you need by hand, or rely on someone else within the open source community to build it for you from scratch? It’s a daunting proposition. But for Berlin-based filmmaker Sam Muirhead, it’s the best way to show the world what open source is, and test how far the concept can go in today’s real life.
