Acrobat in the Move!
After 33 years at Vanier Park, the Vancouver International Children’s Festival is moving to Granville Island.
Why Granville Island?
We all love Vanier Park but the best artistic work in the world today requires technical support that we cannot provide in tents. The decision to move the Festival was made with great deliberation. Granville Island is a vibrant, creative hub and home to numerous cultural festivals and events. It offers the environment and opportunities to take the Festival into the 21st century.
Over the past 12 months, our government funding has been slashed by more than $200,000, putting our organization in jeopardy. With up to 36 per cent of our annual revenues coming from government sources, this hinders our ability to produce the Festival. At Granville Island we have access to theatrically equipped venues, plenty of outdoor spaces, and most importantly of all, we can reduce our production costs by a whopping 40 per cent.
Despite the many challenges facing us, we know we’re moving in the right direction. It will be a different Festival in 2011, that’s for sure, but one that we know you’ll embrace and your kids will love.
So join us May 30-June 5, 2011 on a journey of discovery to a whole new world of cultural creativity at the Children’s Festival on Granville Island.
The Vancouver International Children’s Festival Society is a non-profit charity.
